Dating from the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902), this blockhouse fort was built by the British Army Royal Engineers to guard the rail line and bridge at Burgersdorp in the erstwhile Cape Colony from attacks by Boer commandos. The small brass plaque denotes that he blockhouse has been declared a South African national monument.
