East African sub-species of the black rhino, Diceros bicornis michaeli, at the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Highly endangered today because of illegal hunting for their horns, used in illicit traditional medicines in the Far East. Rhino horn comprises in fact only keratin, the same makeup as our finger and toenails, and has no medicinal qualities.
