Elim is a village in the Western Cape of South Africa close to Cape Aghulas. Established in 1824 by German missionaries as a Moravian mission station. A high priority on the proximity of water and land flat enough to easily plant vines for the production of communion wine. Besides preaching the Gospel, missionaries taught villagers a variety of trades. Thatching being a major influence on the town. Elims thatchers are still, today, acknowledged for their craftsmanship.
