Hans pushes his bike down Grey Street in front of Jane Cowens house in the small town of Phillipstown. Due to the long summer heat most original Karoo houses have extensive verandahs ( or a 'Stoep' as they are know locally ). Because of the increase in crime many have now been enclosed by an assortment of burglar guards.
