One of two masonry blockhouses at Burgersdorp built by the British Army Royal Engineers during the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902) - now called the South African War. The blockhouses served to guard the rail line and bridge at the town from attacks by Boer commandos. This blockhouse is a South African national monument.
