The morning sun hits the 'Rooikoppe' ( Red Hills ) near Red Mountain Lodge in the Klein Karoo. In these bizarre red rock formations of the Red Hills, geologists have been able to trace the earth's development over 6 to 800 million years. The sea left the red tinted deposites against these hills over 125 million years ago. This phenomenon is said to be found at only two other places on earth. The plant diversity, especially amongst the succulents, is also of the highest on earth.
