The Swartberg Pass over the Swartberg Mountains between Oudtshoorn and Prince Albert is one of the most famous in South Africa, if not in the whole of Africa. It's remarkable geology and vegetation is unique. It was completed by the great South African engineer Thomas Bain in 1888. The pass is a national monument and a Unesco World Heritage Site. In this north east view ( 33° 18' " South & 22° 02' " East. 1133 meters Altitude ) stacked stone walls line the hairpin bends.
