The town of Sutherland lies in an area called the Roggeveld, has around 3000 inhabitants and is located in the Northern Cape Province. It is known for having some of the clearest and darkest night skies in the world, primarily due to its remote, arid location as well as its altitude. The church, built of local Sandstone ,was completed in 1855. Co-ordinates 32° 24' South & 20°39'" East. Altitude = 1464 Meters.
