Indigestion tablets. Actal is the British name of a combination magnesium/aluminium hydroxide- containing antacid. It is used to provide relief from indigestion (dyspepsia) by raising the pH of gastric acid. Indigestion is caused by poor digestion and absorption of food in the alimentary canal. Actal can affect the absorption of other medicines such as warfarin, iron or tetracycline. Actal is known as Alucol in Italy and Switzerland.
