These two long, fine half-tubes take the place of the lobster's little jaws (maxilla), and they are made in this way because the butterfly has to suck honey out of the deep tubes of the flowers (Fig. 142), so he does not need the strong pincers, scissors, and jaws, of the lobster. It is also a good plan to have his bill in two pieces instead of one, because it is so much easier to keep it clean. You know.
