One of the Alaska CommercialCompany, the other of the North American Transporta-tion and Trading Company. On these two establish-ments everyone who goes to Dawson without provisionsmust rely mainly. Even those who have a good outfitwill find it often necessary to patronize one or other ofthe stores. Prices are on an average three times as highas at Juneau or St. Michaels and four to five times assteep as in San Francisco. When the winter is nearlyover and supplies begin to run short prices are, as aconsequence, raised. Toward the close of last winterbefore the new supplies came up the river prices weredo
