The longer arm of the spring should atleast be long enough to cover the surfaces of three teeth tofurnish proper support. In adjusting the spring, the longer arm should be nextto the gum while the shorter one is being inserted into thetube, then by turning it downward the whole appliancecomes into proper position with the shorter arm acting as aspring to draw the incisor outward. When the tooth is in place it may be retained by insert-ing a short wire into the tube and allowing it to rest uponthe labial
