Scott s View of the Eildon Hills in the Scottish Borders in midwinter

This view of the Eildon Hills in the Scottish Borders is famous, and known as 'Scott's View' because Sir Walter Scott, when riding back by horse to his estate at Abbotsford, would often pause to survey the River Tweed and the hills with his own lands in the distance, from this spot. When Scott's coffin was drawn by a team including his own horse on this road, legend has it that the horse (used to stopping) came to halt for the usual time, and the cortège understanding the reason, paused to look at the scene. Today there is a viewpoint with car park.
