Since that year he has permanently resided in London. His first works seen in the metropolitan galleries were a life-size portraitof Mr. B. Whishaw, and a picture called The Staunch Friend, bothexhibited at the Academy In 1859: the latter represents a jester with amonkey; it is cleverly painted, and shows character.
