Larder beetle, illustration. The larder beetle (Dermestes lardarius) is a large black insect (7-9 mm long) with a wide yellow stripe across its wing covers. It got its name because it is a pest of cured meat and other stored products. The larder beetle also feeds on cheese, feathers, skins, horns, and even dead insects.
