T. became acquainted with ThomasEverit, a hide and leather dealer in Ferry 1822 he married Thomas Everits daughter,and in 1848 retired from business rich, and livedat Poughkeepsie. Comfort and Joshua Sands were merchants be-fore the Revolution. They did business in PeckSlip. The first ferry from Brooklyn ran from theslip. In 1800 they bought a property, 160 acres,there, and built ropewalks, wharves and buildingsjust across the East river. Sands street runsthrough it. Comfort Sands, before the war, wasone of a party that took ten bales of stamp paperfrom a British brig at Peck Slip and burned the war he fled to Philadelphia, and theBritish burned his books and papers.
