Cam-lachie parish comprised, besides the two villages, a ruraldistrict containing a few acres of well-cultivated the bank of the river Clyde are the handsome man-sions of Belvidere and Westthorn, both of modern erec-tion, and commanding fine prospects. The village is iugeneral indifferently built, the houses being mostly in theold style, with low ceilings and small windows. The artof letter-founding was introduced, and brought to greatperfection, by Mr. Alexander Wilson, afterwards professorof astronomy in the university of (Glasgow, who, remov-ing from St. Andrews to this place, established a foundryhere, which was subsequently transferred to population are almost exclusively employed in hand-loom weaving, and tiie manufacture of muslins ; and inthe immediate vicinity are several coal-mines, of which, CAMP CAMP. Seal and Anns. however, one only is in operation, for the supply of thedistrict. In the village of Parkhead is a post-office,under that of Glasgow. The parish was formed in 1838 ;the ch\irch is a neat structure, erected by the Church-Building Society of Glasgow, who now let it to a FreeChurch congregation. CAMPBELLTOWN, aburgh and parish, in the dis-trict of Cantyre, county ofArgyll : the parish con-taining, with the villages ofDalintober and Drumlemble,9634 inhabitants, of are in the burgh, 60miles (W.
