Dr Jen Gupta giving here talk entitled "Seeing the invisible universe", on the Universe Stage, at New Scientist Live 2022

Have you ever wondered how we can know so much about the Universe when astronomers are stuck here on Earth, unable to visit distant stars and galaxies? Join Dr Jen Gupta as we explore the invisible Universe and discover how astronomers manipulate light to turn the entire cosmos into their laboratories. Along the way we’ll meet some of the pioneering scientists who paved the way for astrophysicists today, and find out how much we still don’t know about what’s out there in space. Dr Jen Gupta is an astronomer, presenter, and science engagement professional based in the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation at the University of Portsmouth. She leads the ICG's outreach and public engagement programme and is passionate about making physics more accessible for everyone. She regularly appears in the media to talk about astronomy; in 2019 she co-presented the BBC Radio 4 programme 'Stranger Than Sci-Fi' and was seen most recently as a presenter on the PBS Nova 'Universe Revealed' series. Outside of work she spends her time building elaborate Duplo structures with her two young children and getting lost in the woods with her dog
