Children : two (de-ceased.) Edwin Robert Walkers fa-ther was a physician whopractised medicine and surge-ry in Rochester, N. Y., butupon his death, the son cameto the home of his maternalancestors in Trenton when hewas seven years of age. Twoof his mothers fore-bears wereofiicers in the RevolutionaryArmy, and another, Stacy , was State Treasurerof New Jersey from 1845 to1847. After a training in the ModelSchool, Edwin Robert Walkeraccepted a clerkship in the of-fice of the late Henry S. Little, who from 1871 to 1881 was Clerk of theNew Jersey Court of Chancery. While busy there he entered himself as a. Warfield 529 law student in the office of the late Col. S. Meredith Dickinson and subse-quently with the late Judge Garret D. W. Vroom, both of Trenton. Ad-mitted to the Bar at the June term of the Supreme Court in 18S6, he beganthe practice of his profession in Trenton. In 1891 he was made Counselfor the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders and a year later be-came Corporation Counsel of Trenton. While he was engaged at his duties before the higher courts. Clian-cellor Magie was attracted by his efficiency; and when, in 1J»07, ViceChancellor Bergen resigned to accept a seat on the Bench of the SupremeCourt, Chancellor Magie appointed Mr. Walker in his place.
