He began railroad life in 1885as clerk in the stationmasters office atthe ( Central Station in this remained here five years, re-signing at the end of that time. He wasthen appointed clerk in the superintend-ents office of the Lake Shore. He be-same assistant trainmaster on the James-town and Franklin in 1892. and. ill the fullovving year was made superin-tendent of the Lansing division. Hewent to Detroit in 1896. and afterwardsto Buffalo. In June of this year he wastransferred to Chicago, being appointedsuperintendent of the Western division,and this position he left to become as-sistant general superintendent of theMichigan Central.
