His education in earlyyouth was in company with andpartly under the tuition of Hon. , whom his father patronizedand who was more than two yearsolder. An intimacy was thusformed between them which was lasting for life. Hewas further educated at Dickinson College, at Car-lisle, Pa. He next commenced the study of law, butbefore completing his course he moved to NelsonCounty, Ky., to open a farm for his father and topurchase homes and locate lands for his brothers andsisters.
