Conservation of mass experiment. Image 1 of 2. Digital scales showing the mass of two conical flasks and their colourless liquid contents before mixing. One flask contains silver nitrate solution, the other contains sodium chloride solution. When the two are mixed (see A500/704), a white precipitate of silver chloride will form, but the mass shown by the balance will be unchanged. This demonstrates that no mass has been lost in the reaction.
