COUNTY BUILDINGS. In the spring of 1872 the question of erecting countybuildings at Belleville and building a bridge across theRepublican at New Scandinavia was agitated, all agreeingthat these improvements were badly needed. Petitionswere circulated and signed, principally by those living inthe vicinity of tbe two points named. These petitionswere presented to the Board of County Commissioners ata meeting held June 14th, 1872, asking that an election becalled for the purpose of voting the bonds of the county to a ; a. r- O c Cc c CD cc p B. History of Republic County. 133 the amount of !tl30,000—-$15,000 of said bonds to be appro-priated to the erection of county buildings at Bellevilleand |115,000 to be appropriated to the erection of a bridgeacross the river at the foot of 4th St., in the town of NewScandinavia, whereupon it was ordered that an election beheld in the several voting precincts, on Tuesday, July 16th,for the purpose of voting for and against the propositionas set forth in the petition. Said bonds to be drawn inamounts of $1,500 each, with interest coujDonsattached,payable annually, on the 1st day of July at the rate of 7per cent., three thousand r^ollars of said bonds to be paidJuly 1st, 1877, and three thousand dollars each year there-after,
