The Hope Mines and Coke-Works, called until re-cently the Sherrick Mines, are situated about half amile east of Everson Station, and also east of boththe Southwest Pennsylvania and Mount PleasantBranch Railroads. They were put in operation aboutten years ago by Jacob Sherrick, and were sold byhim in March, 1881, to the present proprietor, JosephR. Stauffer, for about eighteen thousand dollars. The])roperty embraces about thirty-one and a half acresof coal as yet untouched (as shown by a survey madein the spring of 1881).
