View ESE of the brick & stone foundations of a Roman bathhouse including stokehole (R) & the hypocausts (raised floors supported by tile pilae) of 2 heated rooms, on the outskirts of Prestatyn, North Wales, UK. Built c AD120 associated with a small industrial/bronze-working settlement connected with Roman silver/lead mining in the area. A metal boiler sat over the stokehole area providing steam for the adjacent caldarium (hot room). Hot air passed under the floors of the caldarium & the cooler tepidarium, & then out through flues in the wall. Around AD150 a cold room, plunge bath & drain were added at the far end. The baths had fallen out of use by c AD160. The baths overlie a native farmstead of round house of c 100BC.
