Farmer Plunders Peasant
According to an ancient Egyptian tale, a peasant from the Faiyum area became prosperous selling his wares that he carried to town on his donkey. Seeing him on a path by the river bank, a farmer contrived to steal the peasant's goods and donkey. The peasant brought the case to the officials. The matter reached the pharaoh, who ordered that justice be done, and the peasant regained his goods and the farmer's as well. The print is based on a painting by British artist Maurice Greiffenhagen (1862-1931).
