Great Railroad Strike, 1877
A wood engraving from Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper showing the Sixth Regiment firing at a mob in Maryland during the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad strike of 1877. The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 lasted 45 days and its most immediate cause was a wage cut for the second time in a year by B&O Railroad. State militias and federal troops, amid much violence across several states, finally ended the strike.
