A close-up picture of the placoid scales, or dermal denticles, on the skin of a bull huss, Scyliorhinus stellaria, caught boat fishing on rod and line off the Dorset coast in the English Channel. Bull huss are also known as the greater spotted dogfish, rough hound, huss, nurse hound and large- spotted cat shark. They are sometimes sold in fish and chip shops as rock salmon, rock eel or flake. The rough skins of bull huss were once used instead of sandpaper with the dermal denticles possessing abrasive qualities. Dorset England UK GB
