A fine selection of col- ors, including crossed sports from the pink and white American varieties, Cap- tain of the Blues, etc. At the meeting on February 12 an award of merit was given to Nephrolepis Whitmani, exhibited bv H. B. May and Hugh Low & Co., Bush Hill Park, En- field. An award of merit went to Thomas Rivers & Son, Sawbridgeworth, Herts, for Excelsior orange. A gold medal was awarded to the same firm for a very large collection of oranges in pots, and loose fruit. The following are a few of the best, but all were good: Excelsior, St. , Malta Oval, Silver, Se- ville, Embigo or Navel and St. Mi- chael's Tangerine, White and Imperial lemons, shaddocks and grape fruits were also shown. Of Excelsior immense boughs of fruit were hung up, clusters of three or four fruits on small twigs. This may be taken as being the best of this old established firm's exhibit. S. To Be Done Now. IN THE GREENHOUSES. It is useless feeding plants that arc not well established as the roots are not capable of the food already in the soil. Clianthus seed should be sown a few in the center of a pot and eventually singled to avoid the necessity for fans- planting. Soot water is excellent as a change from the ordinary manure water for roses, carnations and the majority of plants. Pinch all yoiuig olants early that have to be so treated. It is wasteful to let them grow stro
