The Margate Shell Ladies created by sculptor Ann Carrington are lifted onto Margate beach Kent at low tide The 7ft tall ladies made entirely from shells and named after famous and infamous ladies who have personal or literary links with Margate appeared on the streets of Margate Old Town during the summer of 2008 as a tourist attraction.
