I have fre-quently stopped and listened with deeppleasure to these harmonious tones,while traversing the broad marshes inthe dim twilight, at midnight, and whilepassing a lonely month on the drearybanks of the Yukon delta I lay in myblankets many hours at night and lis-tened to these rythmical sounds, whichwith a few exceptions were the only onesto break the silence.
