The strike by nurses represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA) was called to demand better nurse-to-patient ratios. Saint Vincent, a 381 bed hospital in Worcester, MA, 47 miles (76km) west of Boston, is currently involved in the longest running nurses’ strike in Massachusetts History. Saint Vincent hospital was founded by the Catholic Sisters of Providence in 1893 and in 2013 was acquired by the Dallas based, for profit, Tenet Healthcare Corporation.
