He then dissolved another portion of the black scales in water,cleared of coloring matter by slight excess of potassa and extracted,with chloroform, a substance to which he assigned the formulaC„H^ Afercks Builetiu, October, 1888, describes, without method ofmanufacture, the alkaloid parthenicine of Ulrici, without referenceto the original article. As this statement is two years older than 1/6 PartJienhnn Hysterophorous. Am. Jour. , 1897. the researches of Ulrici published in Guyets paper, it is presumedthat the substance is a purified form of that to which was assignedthe formula CjgHogNOg. It is described as follows : * Large rectan-gular prisms, with pyramids on four lateral sides.
