Red or Lesser Panda Ailurus fulgens Himalayas and Southwest China
The Red or Lesser Panda, a racoon-like animal, is not related to the Giant Panda, but lives in a similar environment, dense mountainous forests. It is more widespread than the Giant Panda, living not only in the forested mountains of Sichuan province, southwest China, but also extending into Yunnan province to the south, and the Himalayan regions of Nepal and Bhutan to the west. This image shows a captive Red Panda at the Panda Breeding Centre on the outskirts of Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, China.
