Africa, the Albert Memorial, London, 20th century. The memorial to Prince Albert was erected in Kensington Gardens near to the Albert Hall. George Gilbert Scott won the competition to design the memorial and it was unveiled in July 1872. Eight sculpture groups surround the memorial. This one, an allegory representing Africa, is by William Theed II.
