Their ran^^e northward is probably limited only by such conditions as exclude the possibility of life. In the late Polar , Dr. Moss succeeded in capt- uring a small salmonoid inhabiting fresh-water lakes as far north as 82° 40'. Along the whole coast of Labrador and the Dominion, and up the St. Lawrence River nearly to Ouebec, they abound. Nor is saltness of their medium essential to life, .so long as they find an opportunity for migration to and from the depths. In Lake Superior and the streams flowing into it on the northern shore, thev are plentiful at the usual seasons.
