Cryptosporidium parvum, microsporidial infection (cryptosporidiosis) in human intestine, transmission electron micrograph (TEM). Cryptosporidium parvum is an apicomplexan protozoan that can cause respiratory and gastrointestinal infections called cryptosporidiosis. The infection primarily involve watery diarrhoea (intestinal cryptosporidiosis) with or without a persistent cough (respiratory cryptosporidiosis). It is prevalent in both immunocompetent and immunodeficient patients. Magnification: x2,450 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
