Infected dog bite on the hand of a 63-year-old man. The open wound has become infected with bacteria from the dog's mouth. The infection has caused the hand to be swollen and inflamed. Dog bite wounds are usually cleaned and then left open and dressed rather than being stitched, in order to prevent multiplication of bacteria. Antibiotic drugs are usually prescribed to combat bacterial infection. Anti-tetanus and rabies treatment may also be given.
