Megalodon shark. Artwork of a megalodon shark (Carcharodon megalodon) attacking a squalodon, a prehistoric whale. Megalodon was the largest and most powerful predator in vertebrate history, measuring 14 to 18 metres. It lived approximately million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era. Squalodon lived from the middle Oligocene to the middle Miocene (approximately 33 to 14 million years ago). They grew to about 3 metres in length.
