The Forest Buzzard (Buteo trizonatus)

The Forest Buzzard is slightly smaller and usually paler below than the Steppe Buzzard with whiter median and greater underwing coverts that don’t contrast strongly with the flight feathers. Most birds have white underparts with irregular brown blotches on the thighs and sides of the breast. They lack barred flanks, but some are almost completely brown making them nearly indistinguishable from Steppe Buzzards. They live in forests and plantations usually foraging along forest edges. Their diet consists of small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and large insects. Members of the genus Buteo are broad-winged, broad-tailed hawks, Well adapted for soaring. The bill, legs and talons are of average proportions.
