Rust fungus in a leaf. Light micrograph of a section through a barberry (Berberis sp.) leaf infected with Puccinia sp. rust, showing spore-bearing cluster-cups (cup-shaped). The walls have split open to reveal the hyphae (brown files) that produce rows of hexagonal spores (brown-black), which are dispersed into the air.
