Installing a damp proof course in a house in Goldthorpe, South Yorkshire, 1957. A contractor using a cutting machine to create a channel in which to insert a damp proof membrane. This photograph was taken for the Brooks Damp Proof Course Machine Company and the property being treated is in Furlong Road in Goldthorpe. The 1950s and 1960s saw damp proofing installed in many houses, which were originally built without any protection against damp.
