Continuing into South Street—better known a generation ago asthe Back Street—we have on our left the old Eagle Inn —the lastof the old hostelries—with stabling opposite. Then we have thestables of the old Fife Arms Inn, a little further along those of the Palace —once the Plough Inn —still further along we have the Gordon Arms stables—one of the best equipped stables in thenorth—and still further west there is the old stableyard of the WhiteHorse Inn.
