He spends most of his day hanging around outside the Garden Centre’s restaurant, Squirrel’s Pantry, picking up leftovers dropped by the diners. Restaurant manager, Jill Pateman, said “He turned up about three or four months ago, so I think he must have hatched this year. Staff and customers cannot believe a robin could have a white front and white tail, but still have a brilliant red breast. “He is a real character and is always hopping about under our feet when he manages to get in through the door from the nursery, but he spends most of his time chirping away with the other robins that live around the Garden Centre.” Just a stone’s throw away from the robin’s territory in the Garden Centre is one of Britain’s largest bird parks, Birdworld, set in 26 acres of the Alice Holt Forest and home to birds from all over the world. Bird expert, Dean Jakings, Head Keeper at Birdworld, said “Robins sometimes have mutations, usually due to interbreeding, but this is one of the prettiest I have ever seen and it is certainly very very unusual.” ENDS.
