Alpha-amanitin toxin and RNA polymerase. Computer model showing an RNA (ribonucleic acid) polymerase II complex being inhibited by a molecule of the mushroom toxin alpha-amanitin (upper centre). The RNA polymerase is bound to a molecule of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid, yellow and pink). This toxin is an inhibitor of RNA II and III and is possibly the most deadly of all the amatoxins, found in several species of Amanita sp. mushrooms, including the death cap.
