(4) The excavation of wide areas,especially in Dakota, by older streams, so as to bring the land surfacebelow the pressure height or head generated by the elevated westernborder of the formation. From this source also are derived the copi-ous pumping supplies of water over wide areas, where the pressure isnot sufficient to produce flowing wells.
