The Silver City Food Co-op obtained organic certification from the New Mexico Organic Commodity Commission on July 11, 2003. That makes it the first independent retailer to be certified organic by the state of New Mexico. The Silver City Food Co-op stocks non-organic and part-organic products. Cooperatives are based on the values of self-help, responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. In the tradition of their founders, cooperative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others.
