Pulsar wind nebula and jet. Combined X-ray (pink), radio (green) and optical image of pulsar IGR J11014-6103 (lower right) and a supernova remnant (upper left). The pulsar (a spinning neutron star) is moving at millions of kilometres per hour with an associated jet and pulsar wind nebula (white-green). A 37-light-year-long X-ray tail (pink) is the longest ever seen from an object in the Milky Way. The pulsar is 23,000 light years distant in the constellation of Carina. The image data is from the ATCA radio array (Australia Compact Telescope Array), the 2MASS survey (optical) and the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The observations were made in 2012.
