The brain areas labelled are the cingulate cortex, the striatum, the ventral tegmental area (one of the body's source of dopamine), the hippocampus, the amygdala, the nucleus accumbens (which has a key inhibitory role), and the prefrontal cortex (a major source of excitation signals).
