Voisin brothers, French aviators. Gabriel Voisin (1880-1973), at left in this picture, was two years older than Charles (1882-1912). The brothers experimented with gliders in 1905, and then formed the world's first aviation company (Les Freres Voisin) in 1906. By 1910 they had developed the Canard Voisin, which, with floats added, became one of the world's first seaplanes. Charles was killed in an automobile accident in 1912, greatly affecting Gabriel. After World War I, Gabriel abandoned aviation and turned to designing automobiles. Photograph from the Bain News Service.
